World Blood Donor Day  (WBBD) is held on 14 june each year. The event was organized for the first time in 2005, by a joint initiative of the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross Societies to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.

Importance of Blood Donation

The importance of donating blood is not only to save the lives of thousands of people who are deprived of life, but also to save the lives of many more who are affected by various diseases and help them to fight numerous illnesses.

For 2022, the World Donor Day slogan will be “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.
